Perhaps the most daunting challenge that lies ahead for employers (and communities) is the strain to mental health leveled by the pandemic. According to Mental Health America’s 2021 report, “the trend of mental health in the U.S. continues to get worse and many states are ill-prepared to handle this crisis.” Since suicide rates peak in the spring and early summer, this is a dramatic and immediate call to action. Employers seem to take note, but are you doing enough? A recent workforce pulse survey from PWC reveals that while executives feel they are doing enough to support well-being, employees disagree.

This month, our conversation will take an honest and candid look at employer response to the developing mental health crisis. Our guest is workplace mental health expert and founder of A World Without Suicide, Mettie Spiess. We’ll discuss both where employers are succeeding and failing in their approach to mental health and what should be done immediately to prevent future suffering.
